ASC Facelift!

This year, we have adjusted our Academic Support Center (ASC) to better meet student needs. In the past, we have staffed the ASC with tutors, but this year we have two full-time teachers. Each day students spend the first part of class working through a curriculum where they explore their own strengths and weaknesses as learners and develop strategies for success.  Each student will meet with the teacher to discuss themselves as learners and hone their skills as self-advocates.

In my observations of the ASC this year, I have seen focused groups of students using their time wisely to keep up with their academics, utilizing their teachers, and reflecting on themselves as learners.

Mr. Phillips

We interviewed Mr. Phillips, NM's newest paraprofessional:

Q: How do you feel working in the new NM, when you were once a student at the old NM?
A: It feels great to be back in the district that provided me such a great opportunity during my time here. The new school looks amazing; I think it has given both the student and faculty a lot of excitement moving forward.

Q: What's a fun fact about yourself?
A: I hope to become an athletic director at some point in my career, and would also like to run in the Boston Marathon.

NM's New Orleans Service Learning kicked off their fundraising efforts with Fun(d) Fest this past Weekend!
