From the Principal’s Desk…

Dear North Middlesex Families,

There have been countless research studies supporting the link between athletic participation and school success, and I think most of us would agree that high school athletics play a critical role in schools, helping individuals to grow, forging bonds of friendship that will last a lifetime, and providing a center point of pride for our school.

With this in mind I would like to highlight two student athletes who recently encapsulated how the power of sports supports our culture of success at NM. Many of you will have seen the recent Sentinel article which highlighted Ashby native and softballer Brigid G. What struck me most about this piece was Brigid’s determination to help the team develop, and her resilience in the face of a tough season. Michael S. also gave me pause for thought during his senior project presentation this past Wednesday, which analysed the reasons why he runs. As a competitive runner in high school, I could relate to many of the reasons he identified for pursuing running, such as a drive for self-improvement and challenge, and a desire to be healthy and fulfilled. I feel strongly that the qualities expressed by these two students are not unique at NM, and that we should all be proud of our student athletes and the contributions they make to our school and wider community.

Sincerely, Isaac Taylor Principal
