The New NM- Library Media Center

On my last trip out to the new school, it was great to see the library/media center coming together. This bright, lofty space overlooking the commons area below will serve as the academic hub of our building, enabling students in all subjects to complete research, write papers, and collaborate with their peers and teachers. Our current library is a very busy place, utilized by classes, clubs, and individuals. Below, two of our teachers explain why they are excited about the new facility.

“I plan to bring my students to the library all the time to work on research-based projects. The new library will be an even more amazing resource in both helping my students navigate the school databases, and in teaching them how to appropriately cite their sources.”   Ms. Hunter, social studies teacher

Think Fast!

In extended advisory this week, students had to think fast in order to use a range of materials including clips, paper, and adhesive to make a themed creation. I was impressed at how quickly students pulled together, and got their creative juices flowing. The projects included a hot air balloon representing students’ soaring aspirations, a swing-set depicting lost childhoods, and an ice-cream truck titled ‘scoops on the go’ complete with an ice cream cone on the roof, and a line of children waiting to be served!

“I am really looking forward to the dedicated green-screen room so that I can increase the amount of time students spend filming themselves signing. This is critically improtant work for developing fluency in American Sign Language!”    Ms. Siskind, ASL teacher
