NM Knows

Leave it to the Librarian

NM librarian Mrs. Penney loves a good book, but she also has a read on what students and teachers need in a modern library. Over the past year she has revamped the library to include a green screen room, film equipment, iPads, 3D printers, eBooks,a puzzle table, a charging station, a makerspace, and of course the notorious library riddle, which challenges students minds everyday. Students now have access to the Boston Public Library databases, as well as a wide range of digital resources.

Paging through Mrs. Penney's career as a classroom teacher, it is easy to see why she feels strongly that the library should support instruction. As a result, the library is a buzzing, active place, unlike the library of old where an errant sneeze would bring a stern look from the attendant! While Mrs. Penney believes that when it comes to the changing role of the school library, the writing is on the wall, she still makes sure to book some time every day to curl up with a printed narrative.
