From the Principal’s Desk…

Dear North Middlesex Families,

You may be aware that two years ago we adopted a new bell schedule. Students are enrolled in 8 classes on this rotating schedule. Each day, students take 5 classes and ‘drop’ 3 classes. Classes are 70 minutes long.

I am in the process of evaluating this schedule in terms of student learning. Based on the feedback I receive, I will either propose a new schedule, or recommend that we keep the existing arrangement. Central to this process will be an analysis of feedback from students, faculty, and parents. I will also be looking closely at student achievement data, such as MCAS and SAT trends.

I plan to present my findings to school committee at the beginning of December, With this in mind, I would ask that you take a moment to complete this short survey, and consider attending the community meetings below:

  • Wednesday October 19 at 5:30 pm at the high school

  • Wednesday November 9 at 5:30 pm at the high school

Students at North Middlesex Regional High School received progress reports today.  Progress report grades have also been posted in the parent portal for your convenience.  Please keep in mind that this report reflects grades for the first 22 days of school and can change before report cards are issued on November 10th.

If you have any questions regarding your child's progress report grades, please do not hesitate to contact the teacher.

Sincerely,

Isaac Taylor

Principal

Fafsa Update

In the past, Fafsa was available January 1st. Under the new deadlines, Fafsa became available October 1st. Families can apply for aid for 2017-2018 starting last weekend, using their 2015 taxes. This is important because according to the Chronicle of Higher Education, many colleges plan to offer aid packages much earlier, as early as December, to students who apply early action.

Fitchburg State University will be hosting a FAFSA Day on Sunday, November 6th, at 1:00pm, at the Antonucci Science Complex, 333 North Street, Fitchburg, MA.   Visit https://www.masfaa.org/fafsa-day-register/  to register and learn more.

The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is a federally required form for all students seeking financial aid, including grants and loans.  At FAFSA Day, local financial aid experts will guide you through how to fill out the FAFSA, and you will have a chance to ask questions about your specific circumstances.  All seniors and their parents are encouraged to attend.

Please reach out to your child’s guidance counsellor with any questions or concerns.

PSAT’s

PSAT’s will be given on Wednesday, October 19th. All juniors will be taking the exam at no charge.  Sophomores are also welcome to take the test for a $15 fee.  Please sign up in Guidance.  PSAT practice booklets have been given out to all juniors and offered to sophomores.  These booklets are available in Guidance.

Requests:

If you have, or plan on taking photos at any of the NM athletic events, if you would be so kind to email them to jbunnell@nmrsd.org so I may put them on display on the monitor in the athletic hall.

If you or someone you knows has any gently used crutches that may be lying around, the athletic department is always looking for extra sets.  You can drop off at the front office to the attention of Mr. Bunnell.

Thank you in advance for supporting NM Athletics!

Reminders:

Injuries - As the season is now in high gear, injuries are occurring both minor and major.  Please make sure that your son/daughter reports any injuries to the coach and trainer so the injury can be assessed and addressed.  Parents please remember to inform the nurse’s office of any information that is important so the school can best accommodate your child.

Equipment Care - All athletes need to remember to bring their uniforms and equipment home after use to be clean.  Please wash thoroughly, and let uniforms and equipment air dry.  Using a dryer can damage uniforms and equipment shorting their life and effectiveness.

Thank you for helping the department better serve your children!
