August 2017

Dear North Middlesex Families:

On behalf of the faculty and staff of North Middlesex Regional High School, I would like to welcome back all of our students for another year of learning and growth.

This year, in addition to our Freshman Orientation, we have scheduled times for upperclassmen to walk through our new high school on Thursday, 8/24.

Class of 2018: 9:00am to 9:45am
Class of 2019: 9:45am to 10:30am
Class of 2020: 10:30am to 11:15am
Freshman Orientation: 12:15pm to 2:00pm

  • New students, as well as the incoming freshman, should feel free to attend and get the feel of theschool building and their lockers. Student Council members, as well as staff, will be on hand to answer questions from students and parents.

I am excited to announce that we will be starting the school year with our 3rd annual Patriot Pride event for all students during the afternoon on Thursday, August 31st. This event was conceived by a group of former high school students who felt that it was important to actively build a positive culture of pride at NM. The event will include a BBQ lunch, activities fair, class meetings, pep rally, and other class events. I would like to commend all the students and staff who have worked throughout the summer to make our 3rd annual Patriot Pride event a reality.

Important information for the 2017-18 school year:

  • The high school administration is currently working on building-access maps and student drop off locations. Once finalized, this information will be emailed to parents/guardians and posted on our website as well. Please watch for this important information.
  • This year each subject teacher will comment on your child’s communication and data interpretation skills on report cards. This information will not appear on transcripts or be communicated to colleges, but I hope it will be a useful tool for students and their families when forming a picture of growth around 21st century skills. More detailed information will follow in the first weeks of the new school year.
  • In response to student and family feedback, midterms and finals will be more consistent starting this year. All full year courses will have a midterm and a final exam, which will count towards ten percent (10%) of the final grade. All semester classes will have a final exam, which will count towards ten percent (10%) of the grade. This change is not designed to cause students more work as many classes will use existing assignments and projects for these grades. Rather, the change will create consistency throughout all classes.
  • All teachers will be working towards posting grades on Aspen. This will allow students and their families to track progress before report cards are released. Currently, teachers use a range of software to report grades (e.g. Schoology, Google Classroom). Please bear with us as we make the transition.
  • Please see the attached list of materials your child may need to begin the school year.
