2016-2017 Daily Schedule Rotation

September 30, 2016

From the Principal’s Desk…

Dear North Middlesex Families,

Next Monday 10/3 please join us to support the support against cancer by attending the girls’ field hockey pink games. The middle school team plays at 3:00, followed by JV at 5:30, and Varsity at 7:00. Wear pink, and support our students. There will be a bake sale and themed basket raffles. All the money from gate admission and the snack shack will be donated to a local family fighting cancer.

Thank you to everyone who joined in the conversation about school start times on Wednesday. We had representation from elementary, middle, and high school, as well as from coaches, the bus companies and food services. The next meeting will be on Wednesday 10/19 at the high school. We will be looking at two proposals from the bus company that would allow the high school to start at a later time. All are welcome!

If you are in need of a dinnertime talking point this weekend, ask your child about the ‘which is older’ quiz for fun fact Friday in advisory. I scored badly on the quiz, but was interested to discover that, among other things, text messaging predates the birth of Justin Bieber!

Please see the bottom of this message for upcoming college visits at NM.

Sincerely,

Isaac Taylor

Principal

NM NOTES AND UPDATES:

Update from Guidance

The guidance counselors are meeting with freshman students ,  introducing themselves and describing their role as advocates for students as they progress through high school.  Counselors are available to help students with academic, personal, and social / emotional concerns.  It is the mission of the guidance department to provide support to students through each academic and developmental level.

Fitchburg State University will be hosting a FAFSA Day on Sunday, November 6th, at 1:00pm, at the Antonucci Science Complex, 333 North Street, Fitchburg, MA.   Visit https://www.masfaa.org/fafsa-day-register/  to register and learn more.

The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is a federally required form for all students seeking financial aid, including grants and loans.  At FAFSA Day, local financial aid experts will guide you through how to fill out the FAFSA, and you will have a chance to ask questions about your specific circumstances.  All seniors and their parents are encouraged to attend.

One Minute to Change Update

We raised $266 for Pach during our first One Minute to Change. Our next minute for change will take place during advisory on Thursday, October 20. Proceeds will go to the NM Giving Tree!

NMRS Scholarship Foundation - Oct 1 Canning Day

The Foundation will be holding a Canning Day on Saturday, Oct.1st throughout Ashby, Townsend and Pepperell.

PSAT’s

Cross Country- The high school has a new 5K course at Hawthorne Brook. Michael Spooner 17’ is the course record holder.

Boys and Girls Soccer are currently tied for 1st place in the league at the halfway point in the season.

Requests:

If you have or plan on taking photos at any of the NM athletic events, if you would be so kind to email them to jbunnell@nmrsd.org so I can put them on display on the monitor in the athletic hall.

If you or someone you knows has any gently used crutches that may be lying around, the athletic department is always looking for extra sets.  You can drop off at the front office to the attention of Mr. Bunnell.

Thank you in advance for supporting NM Athletics!

Reminders:

Injuries- As the season is now in high gear, injuries are occurring both minor and major. Please make sure that your son/daughter reports any injuries to the coach and trainer so the injury can be assessed and addressed.  Parents please remember to inform the nurse’s office of any information that is important so the school can best accommodate your child.

Equipment Care- All athletes need to remember to bring their uniforms and equipment home after use to be clean.  Please wash thoroughly, and let uniforms and equipment air dry.  Using a dryer can damage uniforms and equipment shortening their life and effectiveness. Thank you for helping the department better serve your children!
